ZENOBIA  ESCORTED  WRECK  TOUR  8 -15 OCT 2011

An exciting opportunity to explore one of the world’s top wrecks with

 Alpha Divers ‘the Zenobia experts’ in a series of 10 escorted dives over 5 days

DAY 1 – two external dives with a minor penetration in to the Bridge and Canteen area so we begin to appreciate the sheer size of the Zenobia
DAY 2 – two dives that take us through the Cafeteria area, Accommodation Block and Upper Car Deck
DAY 3 – two dives that take us ever deeper into the wreck, through the Upper Lorry Deck and amongst the trucks, the lift shaft and Captains Quarters
DAY 4 – takes us to the Middle Lorry Deck – twice!
DAY 5 – is a surprise and a special one at that - two deep dives including a visit to the Engine Room, if we’re up for the challenge!

Dive ‘the Zen’ one of the world’s most famous wrecks

This 178M long, 28M wide monster roll-on, roll-off (Ro-Ro) vehicle ferry lies on her starboard side, just 16 meters from the surface and only 10 minutes boat ride from Larnaca harbour. The Zenobia is home to some incredible marine life and is easily accessible to recreational divers with the seabed at 42M – this is a ‘must dive’ wreck for all metal enthusiasts.

The Zen sank on her maiden voyage from Sweden to Syria, eventually going under at 2.30 am on Saturday, 7 June 1980. There has been much speculation and intrigue as to the cause, with rumours ranging from insurance scams to Middle Eastern security forces. The most likely theory surrounds the computerised ballasting system which reportedly developed a fault on route. It took two days for the Zen to circum to the deep, taking 104 articulated trucks and other vehicles to the bottom. The Zenobia is completely intact, as there has been on attempt to salvage the ship or her cargo, some of which lies scattered on the seabed.

Extra costs – 12L cylinder, air fills & weights are included in the package price, Nitrox is an extra - £50 for 5 days. If you want a larger cylinder, 15L will cost £22 (Nitrox £58) for 5 days, 18L cost £33 (Nitrox £70) for 5 days, twin 12Ls cost £50 (Nitrox £105) for five days diving.

British Airways scheduled non-stop flight from Heathrow, departing Sat 8 or Sun 9 October at 08.50 arriving Larnaca 15.25. Return flight to Heathrow the following Sat 15 October at 16.45 arriving 19.40 - £224 cost quoted 7/12/10. The standard economy baggage allowance is 23kg check-in luggage plus carry-on luggage, size 56x45x25cm. You can buy an extra baggage allowance at a reduced rate online from the BA website. Cyrus Airways also operate services from Heathrow at similar times, so there are other options, if you prefer.

Although the Zenobia is the main attraction, Cyprus has more quality diving to offer than just one wreck, smaller wrecks like HMS Cricket, cavern and archeological sites and reef dives, including Cape Greco to the East of Larnaca and in easy reach.
